What’s Going On…

This week a local restaurant opened that I had been looking forward to for awhile.  It’s  Poke’ bowl place and I’m in love after my first visit for lunch today.  If you are unfamiliar with what a poke’ bowl is, it’s a Hawaiian thing.  Any sort of (usually raw) fish with various toppings.  Think burrito bowl only for sushi.  Now follow me here – I don’t really like fish and I really dislike sushi!!  But I discovered a few years ago that I have an insane love for raw Ahi Tuna.

Poke Bowl

I’ll probably end up getting stuff to make these for myself at home however the hubs is convinced I’ll get all sorts of cooties from eating raw tuna.  He has a hard time with that but it’s no trouble to cook a bit of tuna for him.  Today’s bowl was brown rice, pickled red onion and cucumber, edamame, green onion, sesame seed, ponzu sauce and of course, ahi tuna.   This is all part of my new effort to be a bit healthier.

It’s a running joke between me and the hubs that if it’s not a nutrient found in a Big Mac or an Oreo cookie then I probably don’t get it.  I long since stopped wearing my Fitbit because well – that was just depressing to have a cold hard number to match how lazy I am on a daily basis.  I’m also a huuuuge night owl.  Two in the morning is a reasonable hour to go to bed right?  Okay, so no.

This past Saturday we had another Sassy Cat birthday!  Simon is now eight years old!!  He’s such a handsome guy.  He celebrated with a fun Caturday of naps, cuddles and tuna.

Onto books!  I’ve hit a bit of a reading slump.  I did manage to finish Into The Water by Paula Hawkins.  It was good.  I was not a fan of Girl On The Train – it wasn’t bad but after all the hype I was disappointed.  I picked up Into The Water with moderate expectations.  It was an enjoyable read and one I recommend.

I have a TON of stuff in my TBR pile that I need to get to for May and June releases.  I’ve taken a few days off from starting anything new but hope to get back on the reading wagon soon.  The TBR is actually getting a bit daunting and I may find myself having to unhaul some that I really don’t think will be for me.  The struggles of a book blogger!

Hope you have a great Monday!

Oh yum! I don’t know about you but I’m finding this so-called “middle age spread” is for the birds! I do try to eat healthy…. I haven’t had ahi tuna. Is it mushy?

Ha yes! Middle age is exactly what my troubles are these days. Seared or raw the ahi is very firm. I think that is why I like it so much. It does not have the typical fish texture.

Well at least we have something to blame it on. I do like some sushi and love Asian food. And Thai food. And middle eastern food. Ok. I love all food. I’m try to lose 15lbs. It’s just sooo hard. Btw Simon is a beauty ! Ear scratches to him.
