Book Fest and Baseball 2

What’s Going On…

The summer has been, mostly, uneventful and I haven’t had  much to chat about with you guys.  Today, you’re in for a treat!  Labor Day Weekend was packed full of fun.  First, we’ll chat about bookish things.

Saturday September 2 was  National Book Festival in Washington D.C.  I heard about this event in early summer and a fellow reader friend and I decided it sounded like a great time.  We were not wrong!  The hubs and I made the trek up to D.C. on Friday evening and collected my friend, Andi, on the way.  Bright and early on Saturday morning, with Starbucks in hand, we set out to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center along with many, many other book lovers.  The place is HUGE and there were so many people!

There were tons of authors that spoke and so many that we would have loved to see.  We decided on three fabulous ladies and spent our day with Elizabeth Strout, Karin Slaughter and Megan Abbott.  All three had really interesting sessions.  Andi and I agree that Karin Slaughter was our favorite speaker.  She is so damn funny!!  For someone who writes such dark, graphically violent novels, she is really on point with her sense of humor.  We think Drinks With Karin should totally be a thing.

The day at National Book Festival was so much fun and I recommend you go if you are near or can get to D.C.  It’s held every September and best of all – it’s a free event.  We will be there next year for sure.

As IF all that book filled fun wasn’t enough for one weekend, we managed to pack in more things to do.  On Sunday we headed up the road to Baltimore to catch an Orioles game.  I was so happy to be able to do that while we were up there.  The hubs and I have talked about making it up for a game all season and it’s never panned out – it’s a LONG drive for a game.

I love Camden Yards – it’s such a beautiful baseball stadium and we had a great day for a game.  I’m a huge Manny Machado fan and we were able to score great seats right by third base!  I was a happy girl.  I even picked up a Machado jersey at the Team Store.

I ended summer on a high note for sure!  I can’t wait to see what’s coming down the pike for fall.

Have a fab week!
