Life Is A Highway… 1

What’s going on…

Wow, the last few weeks have been busy! My calendar says they are going to stay that way.  Being on the go can be fun, it depends on what you’re doing I suppose.  I’m not a real fan of car trips. After an hour I want out! But we’ve got several going on these days.

Last weekend we made the trip from Virginia Beach all the way up to Maryland to visit the hub’s family. It’s a four and a half hour drive according to Google Maps, however it always takes so very much longer. The Northern Virginia traffic is an unpredictable nightmare to say the least.  This time, it took just under seven hours. Yes, seven!  But the hubs is always happy to see his family – it doesn’t happen often at all.

A great family photo of the hubs, aunt and uncle, two brothers, two sisters, and his nephew and two little nieces. It was a good day and the little ones are too cute! Aunt Pam is truly one of my favorite people.  She’s so funny and a lovely lady. She’s also in her late 70’s and I can barely keep up with her! I don’t know if that says more about her or about me.

So, last weekend was all about the hubs.  This weekend is all about me! We are making the trip to Washington D.C. for the National Book Festival. We are picking up my childhood best friend in my old home town of Spotsylvania on the way. She and I had a wonderful time last year at the festival and we both made sure to be available this year to go again. So many great authors to see and, of course, have books signed! My collection of signed books is growing quickly and I love them all.

As for the near future, we’ve got a trip to OBX planned for a day to pick up my custom made bathroom mirror. We have a weekend trip back to Maryland for one of the niece’s first birthday.  AND Uncle Ed and Aunt Pam will be in the OBX in late September, so we’re driving down for a day to meet them and hang out and have dinner.

WHEW!  Lord help me, I don’t know when I’ll be able to get this bathroom done! Luckily I’m making some progress on that front.  I’ve starting putting up tile in the shower! I can’t tell you how happy that makes me. I was super anxious about it, but it’s actually not as hard as I imagined it being. At least the little I’ve done has gone well.  I really love the color of the glass subway tile and the matching mosaic is really pretty and beachy.  I’ve got a long way to go to get it all done though.

But Lisa, what have you been reading??? I know you’re asking me. That answer is an easy one! NOTHING. Nope, not a thing.  Truthfully, I’m close to done with a book I’ve been struggling with. I was sent Our House by Lousie Candlish. It’s gotten some really good reviews and I am not sure why, but I just can’t get into it.  I’m determined to finish it though.  I do have lots of exciting things waiting for me in the TBR pile.

So that’s what’s been going on around here.  What have you been up to?

You have had lots of family time this summer! And more coming up! I still can’t believe that you are cutting away at tile and literally doing your bathroom on your own! How involved are the kitties in your work?
